How to Create a Taobao Account

In a previous article we explained how to register on Alipay, the leading online payment platform in China. Alipay allows you to shop on thousands of stores including Taobao, the Chinese Amazon. In this article, you will learn how to open an account on Taobao to shop online.

1. Download Taobao from your app store or online

Open Taobao once it has been downloaded.

2. Select “我的淘宝” (lit. My Taobao) in the bottom right corner

3. Select “免费注册” (lit. Free registration) at the bottom

4. Enter your phone number

The country calling code is automatically set on China (+86). Once you’ve typed your phone number, press the orange button to move on to the next step.

5. Get your phone number verified

Press the white square with two arrows and move the slider to the right up to the end to get your phone number verified.

The slider will turn green when you reach the end of it.

You will receive a text message with a 6-digit confirmation code. Press the orange button after entering the code.
