How to Open an Alipay Account

Alipay, a.k.a Zhifubao (支付宝), is the most commonly used online payment solution in China. It goes far beyond online shopping, as it can be used in supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants, taxis and many more. The app has been translated in English so it is pretty easy to set up an account now.

1. Download Alipay from your app store

You will need to type Zhifubao - the Chinese name of Alipay- to find the app in your app store.

2. Sign up

A. Click on “Not signed in? Do it now” at the bottom of the screen

B. Enter your nickname, phone number and password then press Sign up

C. You will receive a text message with a confirmation code.

After you registered your Alipay account, you will have to add a bank card if you want to make online payments.

3. Go to ME in the bottom right corner

4. Select BANK CARD

5. Add a bank card

6. Add your phone number to get verified

7. Add the 6-digit verification code sent to your phone

8. Click on COMPLETED to see your added bank card.

9. Your bank card is now linked to your Alipay account
